Abstract Based on literature analysis, we constructed the theoretical structure of Chinese modest personality trait by open-ended questionnaire survey, in-depth interview and content analysis. Moreover, the Chinese Modest Personality Trait Inventory was compiled by drawing on the relevant items of the existing domestic and international modesty scales. Then exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis and validity test were further carried out. Conclusions: (1) The modest personality quality scale was composed of 22 items, including six dimensions: affinity, instrumentality, low-profile, enterprising, morality and sincerity; (2) The Chinese Modest Personality Trait Inventory had good psychometric properties, which could be used as an effective tool to measure the modest personality traits of Chinese people.
