Abstract Applying network analysis method to evaluate the counseling quality of the novice psychological counselors, 237 novice psychological counselors were selected for text analysis according to the text content of the psychological process. Three types of word frequency were selected, including emotion words, action words and thing words. The results showed that positive emotion words, working words and listening words had the highest frequency distribution among the three types of words; The network analysis revealed that the node correlation between the words used by the novice counselor and the client was high, of which the highest correlation was working words and achievement words, but the correlation between the nodes of action words and religion words was weak; There was no node correlation between the feeling words and the other words used by the novice counselor. The above results indicated that novice counselors’ counseling quality was not high, and there were some problems in verbal response skills, empathy, and synchronization with the clients, which needed further supervision and training.
