Abstract Nomophobia refers to a kind of anxiety or fear to oneself when smartphone is not around or cannot be used. Nomophobia is determined by various factors such as gender, age, personality traits, emotional state, smartphone use behavior and culture. Nomophobia has a significant negative effect on individual’s cognition, behavior and physical and mental health. Future research can be further considered from cross-groups, cross-cultural and interdisciplinary perspectives, enriching the protective factors and risk factors of nomophobia, clarifying its dynamic characteristics and neurophysiological mechanism, and evaluating the effective intervention strategy in the context of Chinese culture.
