Development and reliability and validity testing of the Depression Scale for Junior High School Students |

Abstract In order to develop a depression scale for junior high school students that is in line with the cultural and historical background of China, this study based on the psychological development characteristics and actual learning and living conditions of junior high school students, explored the structural dimensions of depression among junior high school students by using methods such as interviews, literature analysis, and questionnaire surveys. In the research, item analysis and exploratory factor analysis were conducted on 1177 students, and confirmatory factor analysis, reliability and validity tests, and transgender equivalence tests were conducted on 1225 students. The results indicated that the depression scale for junior high school students developed in this study included two dimensions: negative cognition and physiological symptoms, with a total of 14 items. The Depression Scale for Junior High School Students had good reliability and validity, the two-factor structure of the scale had measure equivalence in different genders, and could be used as a measurement tool to explore depression issues among junior high school students.
