Abstract The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between awe and narcissistic rivalry, as well as the mediating role of social comparison and the moderating role of natural beauty. The awe scale, admiration narcissistic rivalry scale, social comparison scale and natural beauty scale were used to investigate 650 college students. The results showed that: (1) Social comparison played a partial mediating role in the relationship between awe and narcissistic rivalry; (2) Natural beauty moderated the direct pathway between awe and narcissistic rivalry. In other words, awe had a greater effect on narcissistic rivalry when there was a high level of natural beauty. Conclusion: We can negatively predict competitive narcissism through narcissistic rivalry, while natural beauty can enhance the down regulation effect of awe on narcissistic rivalry.
