Abstract The relationship between culture and psychology was shown to be compelling. The current study first reviewed the research on animal cultural phenomena, and proposed that innovation and social learning are the important factors that drive culture. Human beings have created different types of cultures in adapting to different living environments. Different cultures have shaped different mental models to make specific behaviors more adaptable in the corresponding environment. Cultural practices influence natural selection and enhance human survival skills. When people have more resources to accumulate and obtain better food resources, adequate nutrition promotes the increase of brain capacity. These brains further promote innovation ability and social learning ability. The coevolution of culture and psychology has made humans the most innovative and culturally dependent species.
